The Daily Mail Online is reporting today on a U.S. study that concludes paraffin wax candles produce smoke with toxins such as toluene and benzene that are linked to cancer, asthma and eczema.

From the article:

…researchers burnt a range of candles in the laboratory and collected and tested the substances given off. This showed that those made of paraffin wax, the most common type, released potentially harmful amounts of chemicals such as toluene and benzene. Some of the pollutants have been linked to cancer, while others could trigger asthma attacks or skin complaints…

The study also concluded that beeswax and soy candles do not produce these toxins and were given “a clean bill of health” by the researchers.

Here at Doxieshop we produce only 100% pure beeswax candles. While we’ve always been proud that our candles are all natural and handmade from locally supplied beeswax (reducing truck travel), we’re now especially pleased they’re also healthier than mass-produced paraffin candles.
